Like the rest of the Q1 fallers, was unfortunate not to improve at the end thanks to his team-mate’s red flag. But he rose up the order in the race, despite losing time when his car went into anti-stall as he avoided Leclerc’s lap-one mess, and showed well in battle with Magnussen.

Impressed in the race’s early stages as he made a good start and avoided the Turn 3 melee. But he dropped back late on, succumbing to the Haas duo, although he was being warned about fuel saving when Grosjean nipped by. Q1 crash harms his score, and hurt his team-mate’s chances.
