An ERS waterpump failure meant he could not set a Q1 time and may have contributed to his qualifying out-lap off. A lock-up at Turn 3 meant Magnussen got by before the end, but he too did well to demote Giovinazzi with an opportunistic pass.

Starred at the start, rising from 15th to 13th at the end of the first lap, where he seemed to pick up damage as another victim of Leclerc’s lunge. Rose to 11th before fading, with Haas then swapping its cars twice. Beat a faster car in Giovinazzi’s Alfa with a brave lunge late on.
