Lando Norris
Following his best season in F1 to date, Lando Norris added yet more silverware to his collection by winning the British Competition Driver of the Year Award. Norris scooped the honours for the third year in a row after winning a vote from the Autosport readers to finish ahead of George Russell, Mike Conway and Jake Dennis.
It came off the back of a stunning season for Mclaren in which Norris scored four podiums, his first F1 pole, and came within a few laps of a maiden win in Russia, making his star status clear.
While Norris was unable to attend the awards, he sent a video message in which he joked that it was more important than winning the F1 World Championship. “If I had to choose, I’d choose the British competition driver award, because it’s voted for by the fans, the amazing Autosport fans,” Norris said. “That definitely tops Formula 1 World Championship. So I’m very, very happy.”
The award was collected on Norris’s behalf by Mclaren boss Zak Brown, who said:
“I think we have a future world champion on our hands.”
“In a way, this is more important than winning the Formula 1 World Championship!” Lando Norris
