Cook to pay entry fees for new models

-

British Touring Car Championship star Josh Cook’s Cooksport operation will cover the cost of race entry fees for competitors using a new model of car in Fiesta Junior this year.

The British Racing & Sports Car Club-run series will introduce a new

Mk7 model this season to race alongside the older Mk6 specification, and this new car will feature controlled parts supplied by Cook’s operation.

“Through Cooksport, we will cover the full cost of race entry fees for every driver of the next-gen car for all of the races they enter in the 2022 championship,” said Cook.

“For a driver getting involved at the start of the season, this is equivalent to handing them over £4000 toward their 2022 racing expenses. Even for those that will build cars through the season to get involved later in the year, the contribution will begin as soon as they enter their first race.”

The new model features a 1.6-litre Sigma engine, and a full kit build is estimated to cost £13,490 plus VAT.

The season is due to begin at Brands Hatch on 9-10 April, with further visits planned to Croft, Oulton Park, Snetterton, Cadwell Park, Knockhill and Brands again.

The introduction of the new car is the latest initiative from Fiesta Junior bosses to boost the series’ fortunes.

Entry numbers have already increased significantly in the past two seasons, after dropping to an average of just five cars per round in 2019.
