Correa commits to enduro and F3 efforts

- GARY WATKINS

Juan Manuel Correa will dovetail another FIA Formula 3 Championship campaign driving for ART Grand Prix with a sportscar programme in the European Le Mans Series in 2022.

The 22-year-old is returning to the Prema team with which he started his single-seater career in Formula 4 in 2016-17.

The Ecuadorian-american will drive a solo Prema-run ORECA-GIBSON 07 in the six-round series as he continues the comeback from life-threatening injuries sustained in the Formula 2 accident at Spa in 2019 in which Anthoine Hubert lost his life. His team-mates have yet to be announced for a car that will not be entered in the Le Mans 24 Hours.

“Endurance racing is a discipline I have always had an interest in, and what better way to make my debut than with a team that I consider to be like family,” said Correa.

Former Toyota LMP1 test driver Thomas Laurent will race full time in the ELMS this year after a season in 2021 in which he only contested one race.

The French driver, an outright race winner in the World Endurance Championship with Rebellion in 2018-19, will drive for the Muhlner Motorsport P2 squad in an ORECA with Swiss Matthias Kaiser, his only team-mate confirmed so far.
