Doohan, Caldwell join Alpine juniors for F2

Alpine has recruited FIA Formula 3 runner-up Jack Doohan and fellow F3 race winner Olli Caldwell (left) to its F1 Academy for their rookie Formula 2 seasons.

Doohan was previously aligned with Red Bull, and moves into F2 with Virtuosi Racing – the team that ran F1-bound former Alpine protege Guanyu Zhou to third place in 2021. Caldwell, meanwhile, fills the vacant slot at Campos Racing, with which he contested his first two F2 events at the end of last season.

Alpine also continues its support of F3 aces Victor Martins and Caio Collet. They lined up together at MP Motorsport in 2021 but, while Collet remains at the Dutch squad this season, Martins returns to the fold at ART Grand Prix, where he beat Collet to the Formula Renault Eurocup in 2020.

There have been several other driver confirmations for F3 in recent days. Argentinian talent Franco Colapinto, who starred last year in Formula Regional and LMP2, has joined Van Amersfoort Racing. Kaylen Frederick, the 2020 British F3 champion, switches to Hitech GP. Fregional ace William Alatalo steps up with Jenzer Motorsport, alongside Ido Cohen.
