Voisin stays United for LMP3

- STEPHEN LICKORISH

Reigning European GT4 champion Bailey Voisin will swap to prototypes this season, driving for United Autosports in the LMP3 class of the European Le Mans Series.

Voisin won the GT4 title alongside Charlie Fagg in a United-run Mclaren in his first senior racing campaign, after fighting for the Ginetta Junior title in 2020. He will be partnered by Porsche Carrera Cup GB graduate Josh Caygill in the Ligier JSP320.

Both have tested the LMP3 machine during the off-season, with Voisin describing his run at Algarve circuit as being a “fantastic car to drive at a fantastic track”. But he admits he had initially expected to continue racing GTS this year.

“I’m over the moon – what a team to stay with and what a championship to get into,” said Voisin. “Until the end of the year, the plan was to stay in GTS and then the chance arose to do LMP3 and, although it’s a big jump, it was an incredible opportunity, so we took it. Le Mans is starting to grow again and a lot more manufacturers are starting to enter, which is great. ELMS and LMP3 provide those stepping stones into Hypercar.”

Voisin added that United is “such a lovely environment and they’re like a big family”.

Fagg is also taking a step up the racing ladder for this year – it was announced earlier this month that he will be driving a TF Sport-run Aston Martin in the

GTE Am class for the D’station squad.
