KING JOINS KINGS OF SUPERCUP IN BID TO REIGN

- STEPHEN LICKORISH

Former Porsche Carrera Cup GB champion Harry King has moved to top team Lechner Racing for his second season in the Porsche Supercup.

Alongside his 2021 British campaign, King also contested the non-clashing rounds of the Formula 1-supporting Supercup with Parker Revs Motorsport, taking a best result of sixth in the Monza finale.

“I take a lot of pride in being chosen for this opportunity,” said King. “The team have an impressive track record and is led by Robert and Walter Lechner [Jr]. They have both had very successful careers, so we all understand each other’s desire and hunger to succeed.

“It’s a two-year deal with Lechner so it’s nice to have some continuity and I can fully embed myself with the team. They’re very confident and that then reflects in my driving – it makes me feel excited for the future.”

Robert Lechner added that he had been keeping an eye on 2019 Ginetta GT4 Supercup champion King’s progress even before he sealed the Carrera Cup title.

“I’m really happy, proud and excited that we managed to sign Harry because I really believe in him,” he said. “He’s got the speed, talent, and the racecraft, and I’m sure he will fight for podiums, hopefully also for victories. We have high expectations, but it’s a plan for over two years and hopefully we will be successful together and be able to crown him the king of the Porsche Supercup.”
