CALLAHAN AND BREAKELL TEAM UP FOR 2022

- STEPHEN LICKORISH

Club racer Sam Callahan is stepping up to drive a Ginetta G55 in the GT4 Supercup this season with Breakell Racing.

The former X Factor contestant (below) has previously competed in a Taydec sports-racer, alongside his father Mark, and in the Campaign Against Living Miserably All Porsche Trophy. But, after a one-off outing in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge at the end of last year, Callahan now wants to build a career within the sport.

“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” he said. “I did go-karting and motocross from the same sort of age I was in music and wanted to perform. I started in club-level sport and got bitten by the bug.

“I’ve made some really good friends in the sport and Max Coates said to me James Breakell and Breakell Racing are a great team and should look after you. I’ve never raced in the GT4 championship so

I’m going in with my eyes wide open. I would like to win the Am championship and build from there.”

Despite his progression up the ladder, Callahan says he will not leave his club racing background behind. “I’m still going to do a few races in the CALM Porsche series,” he added. “Grassroots racing is where I started and I’ve no intention of stopping all of that.”

Callahan will be joined at Breakell by GT4 Supercup regular Reece Somerfield and GT Academy driver Wes Pearce, who will both race G56s.
