Champions join the entry for first Praga Cup event

- PETER SCHERER & STEPHEN LICKORISH

Reigning F3 Cup champion Stefano Leaney is one of a number of successful club racers to move into the Praga Cup, which is holding its first standalone race at Silverstone this weekend.

The Praga prototypes have previously run as a class within the Britcar Endurance Championship, but the Czech manufacturer has expanded to have its own grid at Britcar events this season.

Leaney has won the F3 Cup crown for the past two years, but previously raced a Radical and won the 2017 Bikesports title. He is due to be sharing an R1 with F1000 racer Jack Tomalin, the car prepared by Tim Gray Motorsport.

Another driver moving into the series is 2020 European Le Mans Series LMP3 class champion Rob Wheldon, who will be partnered by Radical racer Ben Stone in a Praga run by Wheldon’s RAW Motorsports operation. Stone said the car “felt like a natural progression from a Radical”.

Another successful club racing squad joining the category is Mittell Cars, with former Sports 1000 champion Scott Mittell teaming up with 2020 Bikesports title winner Charles Hall.
