W Series names 17 for its third season

The W Series has confirmed its 17 full-time drivers for the 2022 season, with five newcomers.

Eleven of the top 12 from the 2021 standings will be racing the Alfa Romeo-engined Tatuus machinery, beginning with the Miami Grand Prix support round in May. These include reigning champi0n Jamie Chadwick, 2021 runner-up Alice Powell plus Powell’s protegee Abbi Pulling, who gets her first full season after impressing in selected outings last year (right).

Russian Irina Sidorkova, ninth in the 2021 points, is missing from the line-up in the wake of her country’s invasion of Ukraine, the series saying that she “will not compete in W Series until further notice”.

Bruna Tomaselli, 15th last year, is on board alongside Emma Kimilainen, Nerea Marti, Sarah Moore, Beitske Visser, Fabienne Wohlwend, Belen Garcia, Jessica Hawkins and Marta Garcia.

The newcomers are 16-yearold Danish F4 race winner Juju Noda (daughter of ex-racer Hideki), Czech Tereza Babickova,

Filipina Bianca Bustamante, American Chloe Chambers and Dutchwoman Emely de Heus. Selection tests to join the top eight from 2021 automatica­lly qualified for an entry were held at Barcelona and Inde Motorsport­s Ranch in Arizona.
