YOUNG DAY JOINS R RACING

Title-winning Ginetta Junior squad R Racing has signed 16-year-old Jamie Day to partner Josh Miller for its maiden season in British GT with an Aston Martin Vantage GT4. Emirati driver Day, who scored a single win on his way to sixth in UAE Formula 4 last season, will form one half of what is set to be the youngest line-up in series history. He and Miller will have a combined age of 33 years and 14 days for next month’s opener.

2 SEAS SUFFERS FIRE

British GT squad 2 Seas Motorsport suffered an electrical fire at its Aylesbury base last Saturday, causing some team equipment and parts to be damaged or lost. The Mercedes GT3 outfit, which has signed Lewis Williamson and James Cottingham for this season, said no team members were at the premises and nobody was hurt. Its cars and equipment had been packed up ahead of a test at Oulton Park, with its track activities unaffected.

FORMULA WOMAN WINNERS

The four Formula Woman winners who have secured a funded season in the GT Cup this year have been announced. Scot Jodie Sloss, Canadian Erika Hoffmann, Indian Anushriya Gulati and Jamaican Sara Misir have been selected following a series of assessment­s. They will compete into two Mclaren 570S GT4S, run by DTO Motorsport. English drivers Steph Sore and Amy Riley have been chosen as reserves.

EDWARDS’ FIAT VICTORY

British Rally champion Matt Edwards (below) stepped back to historic rallying to win last Saturday’s Rally North Wales, the second round of the British Historic Rally Championsh­ip. Edwards and Hamish Campbell gave the Rallysport Developmen­t Fiat 131 a first victory at this level, despite very heavy steering after the sump guard was damaged. They defeated the Ford Escort Mk2 of Nick Elliott and Dave Robson by 16 seconds.
