UNFORTUNATE HAAS MISSES THE POINTS

-

Haas suffered a blip in form after its impressive start to the second Formula 1 ground-effect era.

Awry car set-up and an ill-timed safety car prevented either driver from adding to the points haul, with Mick Schumacher taking 13th, ahead of Kevin Magnussen.

Schumacher gained a place on the slow-starting Carlos Sainz Jr, who was held up in a scrap with Yuki Tsunoda, only to run wide at Turn 10. He was also lucky not to hit the Japanese under the safety car, locking up to avoid a stack-up of traffic in front. Magnussen’s hard-tyre strategy gamble was undone by the safety car.

Team boss Gunther Steiner said: “It didn’t work out as we planned. The car was strong, and the drivers did a good job, so we know if we qualify better we can score points, and that is what we keep on trying to do. It’s one of three which was difficult. Here we go again in Imola.”
