Taylor switches to GT Cup for 2022

- STEVE HINDLE

James Taylor – Team Hard’s 2022 Scholarship winner – made a last-minute switch from the Ginetta GT4 Supercup to the GT Cup and competed in last weekend’s season opener.

Using the squad’s older Porsche 991 GT3 Cup car, which Taylor shared with 2018 champion Chris Murphy, the duo took a best result of third in GTC at Donington Park.

Taylor told Autosport: “It was a difficult choice as GT4 Supercup provides a strong platform [on the TOCA package] but I wanted to raise my profile and both Tony [Gilham] and I agreed that I might not fully achieve this with the lower-spec car.

“Straightaway, he offered me the opportunity to switch to the Porsche alongside former champion Chris Murphy.

“It’s a huge step up and a uniquely different car to race. It’s an eye-opener, but one that allows me to work with the team in building sponsorship opportunities, while developing as a driver ahead of what we hope will be a future campaign in

Porsche Carrera Cup.”
