NISSAN E.DAMS
Formula E’s original teams’ championship winner, e.dams has now been bought out by Nissan as the Japanese marque seeks to stamp its authority on the championship after falling down the order in recent years.
Sebastien Buemi, Formula E’s 2015-16 title winner, remains at the team with which he’s spent the entire eight seasons of the series, and yearns for a return to the early glory days. Points have been scarce for the team in the opening six races, and Buemi looked set for further struggle after qualifying last in Monaco, but he had considerably stronger race pace to rise through the field and finish in a well-deserved eighth place.
The Swiss is partnered by three-time FE race winner Maximilian Guenther, who spent two years at the works BMW Andretti squad and earned a reputation as a fast and diligent driver, with an occasional penchant for in-race contact. Guenther has managed just two points so far this season, and looked set for a good haul from Monaco before energy overconsumption meant that he simply dropped down the order at the close of the race.
The team’s flawed powertrain package means it currently struggles to score consistently, and team boss Tommaso Volpe has admitted that e.dams is struggling to find the right qualifying strategy as it still awaits a first appearance in the duels.
