DRAGON PENSKE AUTOSPORT
Another of Formula E’s original teams, Jay Penske’s Dragon operation has trickled towards the back of the field in recent seasons – albeit sometimes pitching in with the occasional surprise result. With the tweaks in qualifying format, those results have been harder to come by, and it has yet to score a point in 2021-22.
Sergio Sette Camara is in his second full season with the US squad and has shown great pace and eagerness to punch well above his weight in limited machinery. He was on course for an impressive appearance in the duels in Rome, before a crash on his final group qualifying lap. A former Mclaren reserve driver, Sette Camara matched up well against Lando Norris when they were teammates in Formula 2, and also managed pole in his one and only Super Formula drive.
He partners Antonio Giovinazzi at the team, the former Alfa Romeo Formula 1 driver trading the white-and-red of the Swiss-italian squad for… the white-and-red of Dragon. Giovinazzi’s maiden Formula E season has been a struggle, however, as his adaptation to the demands of the Gen2 car has been ponderous at best. Braking has been a struggle, although he doesn’t necessarily have the easiest car with which to learn the nuances of Formula E. The Italian credited his Monaco weekend as his “best so far” – he already knew the track and hence could focus on understanding the car.
