Cadillac men Lynn and Bamber could race as duo

Cadillac looks set to fill the vacant seat in its World Endurance Championship line-up on a race-by-race basis this year. The

American manufacturer has hinted at a rolling cast of team-mates for Earl Bamber and Alex Lynn in place of the departed Richard Westbrook in its solo Ganassi-run V-series.r in 2024. And it hasn’t ruled out running just two drivers in some races.

Laura Wontrop Klauser, boss of sportscar racing at Cadillac parent General Motors, explained that there is a desire to be “flexible” in the marque’s second season in the WEC’S Hypercar division. “We have a great driver pool within GM sportscar racing,” she said. “We have some really cool people that we can tap on the shoulder if we need their help. We are not going to be announcing a full season driver for that seat; as it makes sense we will announce it race by race.”

To the question of whether Cadillac could go into some races with two drivers, she replied: “It is allowed, so it gives us an option if that is what we want to do for those races.”

Klauser’s remarks suggest that Cadillac will mobilise drivers from its two-car IMSA Sportscar Championship GTP assault to complete its WEC line-up.

Its full-timers are Sebastien Bourdais and Renger van der Zande in the Ganassi-run car, and Pipo Derani and Jack Aitken in the Action Express Racing V-series.r.

They would not be available for the Imola and Spa WEC rounds in April and May because they clash with Long Beach and Laguna Seca respectively. And Ganassi’s and AXR’S extra drivers for the IMSA enduros, Scott Dixon and Tom Blomqvist, will be on Indycar duty those weeks. That supposes a two-driver line-up for rounds two and three of the WEC.

What will happen for the Le Mans 24 Hours in June is unclear should both IMSA cars again be granted entries.

Westbrook, who partnered Bamber and Lynn last year, is racing for the Jdc-miller Motorsports Porsche squad in IMSA in 2024.
