Delight for Whitletts residents as new Post Office branch for area confirmed

-

THE Post Office in Whitletts is set to re-open at a brand new location - just a short distance from the area’s previous branch.

A date has yet to be confirmed for the opening of the new facility, but Post Office Ltd has confirmed it will be located at the Libby’s Convenience Store Premier Express outlet at 82-84 Main Road.

That’s just a couple of minutes’ walk away from the previous facility, at the area’s Spar shop.

That service closed down in September 2021 after Spar said retaining Post Office counters at a variety of locations, Whitletts among them, was no longer financially viable.

The Advertiser reported in March that talks were under way to replace the closed Spar facility - but just six weeks later it was announced that those talks had collapsed.

While the opening of a new facility in the area is expected to be welcomed by residents, Post Office Ltd has warned that some customers may struggle with the entrance steps at the new facility.

The organisation says that the new postmaster is working with South Ayrshire Council and contractors on possible solutions to make the new branch more accessible.

Scott Hamilton, Post Office Network Provision Lead, said: “We are delighted to be restoring a Post Office to this area as we know how important a Post O f f ic e i s to a community.”

The new branch will be open Monday-Friday from 9am- 5pm and on Saturdays from 9am until 12 noon.

Ayr North councillor Ian Cavana said: “I have been heavily involved in the campaign to re-open this Post Office from the start and I’m delighted that a new operator has been found at last.

“The Whitletts branch was always very popular.”
