Diamorphine driver disqualified after ‘not remembering’ damage
A DRIVER caught with diamorphine after swerving his car around Drongan and Patna was told ‘it was worrying’ he can’t remember causing damage to another vehicle.
Gordon Anderson, 44, admitted charges including careless driving, causing damage and possessing a controlled drug earlier in the year.
When Anderson, of Minnoch Road, Bellsbank, appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court last week [Thursday, September 15] the Procurator Fiscal said: “At 8.20pm on May 10 a witness between Drongan and Coylton observed a silver Peugeot stationary in the middle of the roadway. The witness sounded the horn flashed lights then the witnesses observed the vehicle start.
“It then moved off swerving on numerous occasions and came to a stop on a grass verge. They observed the accused in the driver seat with others inside.
“Another witness observed the accused driving erratically parking vehicle in Jellieston Terrace Patna.
On moving off another witness observed a damaged wing mirror.
“At 8.30pm police officers traced the vehicle. They observed slurred speech and movements. They found a wrap of 1.4gram of diamorphine.”
Defending, Steven Maxwell said Anderson understood his actions brought him to the “cusp of custody” and that his client had a “difficulty with drug use”.
He added: “He appreciates he will have to be disqualified for a significant period of time’.
Sheriff Desmond Leslie said: “You having no memory of it – that should be very worrying.”
He was placed on a community payback order with supervision for 18 months and will need to complete 150 hours of unpaid work. He was disqualified for three years.
