Bottle-chucking flasher man on his last chance

- BY ANDY HAMILTON andy.hamilton@newsquest.co.uk

A REPEAT offender who exposed his genitals in a threatening manner then dodged jail for throwing bottles at a neighbour’s window was given one last chance to avoid custody.

Colin McKenzie, 50, was told his recent behaviour had been ‘disappointing’ after previous convictions for threatening behaviour – including pulling out his privates in Prestwick.

McKenzie admitted exposing himself and causing a male and female fear and alarm on two occasions on August 16 and August 23 2020.

The complaint states he exposed his genitals in a threatening or abusive manner at his address at Newdykes Road, Prestwick, with the intention that both would see them – after the charge was amended from a sexual offence.

He later repeatedly shouted and swore while kicking and striking a neighbours door on October 21 last year.

He made threats to damage property, then repeatedly threw glass bottles at a window and the wall. He was on bail at the time.

When he returned to Ayr Sheriff Court for a community payback order review last week his solicitor said the report from social workers was “disappointing to put it mildly”.

He said: “Since July things have gone awry – but he is here to ask for a last chance.

“He knows very well he could be facing a custodial sentence. He tells me he knows he must get help.”

Sheriff Siobhan Connolly said: “This is a disappointing report and you have been given lots of support in the past.

“This can’t keep going or you will make yourself very ill or most likely committing more offences.

“I could revoke the order today and send you to prison and that would keep you off the alcohol for a while.

“I will give you one month. If the report says you didn’t engage, committed any offences or any other problems the order will be revoked and you will be sent to prison, and its going to be for a significant period of time.”
