WoSFL - Ayrshire sides in cup action

-

IT WAS a quiet weekend in the West of Scotland Football League (WoSFL) as many sides continued their Junior Scottish Cup journey.

Not all were in cup action though, with some Ayrshire sides still completing some league fixtures.

In the Premier League, Irvine Meadow fell behind Largs Thistle before Calum Gow later levelled the scoring in a 1-1 draw.

And in a bit of Friday night football, goals from Keiren Wood and Dylan Mackin gave Kilwinning Rangers a 2-0 win over Cambuslang Rangers.

The only other league with Ayrshire sides in action was Division Two.

In a Three Towns derby at Campbell Park, Ardrossan Winton Rovers toppled Saltcoats Victoria 5-1, despite the game being level at half time.

Girvan picked up a good point as they drew 1-1 away to Lesmahagow.

While Kello Rovers returned to the top of the table courtesy of an impressive 2-0 win at home to Lanark United.

The majority of the action came was the Junior Scottish Cup, where plenty of Ayrshire sides played out their second round ties.

The journey is over for Lugar Boswell Thistle, who were brushed aside 4-0 away to Arthurlie.

Winners in 2016, Beith Juniors progressed with a professional 2-0 win at home to Hermes thanks to goals from Carlo Monti and Josh Fowler.

Cumnock were made to battle, as they needed penalties to progress against Ashfield, after the game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Dalry Thistle came close but were sent crashing out at the hands of Stoneyburn FC, who defeated the Garnock Valley side 2-1.

Kilbirnie Ladeside translated their league form into cup form, as they made it into round three thanks to a 2-1 win away to Glasgow Perthshire.

Glenafton made light work of their opposition, goals from Dylan O’Kane, Paul Paton, Jamie McKernon and a Sean McKenzie double gave them a 5-1 win away to Rothie Rovers.

Ardeer Thistle were on the opposite end of a drubbing, as their eventful match away to Tayport saw the Stevenston side travel home after being defeated 7-1.

Flying high in the league, Maybole continued this on the road in the cup with a 2-1 win away to Wishaw.

While current holders in the competition, Auchinleck Talbot, made sure they are still in the mix to retain their title.

Goals from Aaron Mason, Bryan Boylan, Aiden Wilson and Keir Samson handed them a 4-2 victory away to Rossvale and a mouth watering third round tie versus Darvel.

Only two more Ayrshire sides were in action, both in the Strathclyde Demolition Cup.

In two goal Fests, Whitletts progresses on penalties after a 3-3 draw with Forth Wanderers, and Eglinton FC defeated Port Glasgow, in a game which ended 6-5.
