Cllr Cullen up for national award
A SOUTH Ayrshire Council member has been placed on the 2022 Cllr Awards shortlist.
The 2022 Cllr Awards shortlist showcase the vital contributions of councillors across Scotland, and Cllr Chris Cullen has been nominated in the Resilience and Recovery awards category.
Nearly 100 nominations were received across five categories that celebrate the varied work of councillors: Community Champion, Leader of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Resilience and Recovery and Young Councillor of the Year awards.
Councillor Cullen commented: “I received a nomination a few months back and really just thought that would be it, with the amount of work most councillors are doing since Covid, rebuilding communities and aiding recovery etc, I assumed there would be an influx of nominations.
“Receiving the news that I was shortlisted again has just blown me away. I’m not a Councillor for thanks, but things like this just add to the satisfaction of making a difference where I can.”
Jonathan Carr-West, Chief Executive, LGIU Scotland said: “In a year like no other, councillors up and down the country have once again been working tirelessly to address the needs of their residents and bring much needed leadership to communities that are struggling day in and day out.”
A panel of judges composed of senior councillors and leading stakeholders will be revealed at the Cllr Awards ceremony taking place on Wednesday, October 12 from 7pm to 9pm at Marryat Hall (Caird Hall), Dundee with Dundee City Council as this year’s hosts.
