Five in dock after ‘fight on train’ and alleged debit fraud in Troon

FIVE people appeared in court accused of involvemen­t in a rammy on a train – with two facing charges of debit card fraud.

Emma Berry, 29, Caroline Marris, 55, Sarah Jane McIlwraith, 54, Gordon McKay, 47, and Matthew Robertson, 30, appeared in the dock last week.

Ms Berry and Robertson, both of Benbain Place, Irvine are alleged to have engaged in a fight with McKay, of Dunlop Court Troon, causing disorder and breach of the peach on the train im September 2021.

It is alleged Ms Marris, of Dunlop Court Troon, punched a woman in the head causing her to fall. She then allegedly assaulted a male complainer by repeatedly punching him on the head

Sarah Jane McIlraith, of James Brown Avenue, Ayr, stands accused of stealing a purse and its contents – belonging to the victim.

Ms Marris allegedly assaulted a second woman at Barassie railway station on the same date by seizing the complainer by the hair and pulling her back. Ms Berry then allegedly lunged towards a male then attempting to punch him.

Gordon Mckay faces a threatenin­g behaviour charge allegedly repeatedly trying to gain access to the train at Barassie station by punching kicking and banging on the door.

Ms Marris and Ms McIlwraith are accused of debit card fraud after pretending to an employee and obtaining goods worth £34 on September 19.

It’s claimed both used the card to pay a taxi driver £7, before Ms McIlwraith went in the Factory Shop in Portland Street, obtaining goods worth £29 with a second person’s debit card. It’s also alleged she then obtained £12.20 of items in Poundland.

All five pleaded not guilty at Ayr Sheriff Court.
