Food: Three South Ayrshire eateries named in AA Restaurant Guide for 2023
THREE South Ayrshire restaurants have been named in 2023’s AA Restaurant Guide and have been awarded rosettes for their cooking ability and general atmosphere.
Rosettes are awarded based on the inspector’s determination on the day of their visit as well as national AA guidelines for scoring.
The yearly honour features three restaurants across South Ayrshire, including one eatery south of Girvan which accomplished an astonishing three rosettes.
Every South Ayrshire establishment featured in the guide was awarded at least one rosette.
The restaurant at Fairfield House Hotel in Ayr, which was awarded one rosette, was praised by inspectors for its food made from “pedigree local produce” and dishes such as breast of duck, black cabbage, plum, potatoes and redcurrant jus”.
Walkers Lounge, at Piersland House Hotel in Troon, which also received one rosette, was also praised, with the hotel described as “delightful and historic” and a “comfortable, elegant setting for classic, traditional dining”.
But the top local accolade went to Glenapp Castle near Girvan, which was awarded three rosettes and was an “outstanding restaurant” worthy of “national recognition.
Judges noted the restaurant’s “sense of grandeur” thanks to its “high ceilings and tables clothed in crisp linen.”
