Ayrshire charity needs your votes in cash giveaway for good causes

AN AYRSHIRE charitable project is hoping to capture a share of a new fund set up by the publishers of the Advertiser – but they’ll need your help to do so.

Our parent company’s charitable arm, The Gannett Foundation, is providing £128k in cash to support local charities across the country – and Sense Scotland’s Touchbase Ayrshire operation is one of the good causes in the running.

We have a £16,000 share of the fund to give away in Scotland, and a few weeks ago we asked you to nominate charities where the money should be spent – and Touchbase Ayrshire topped the poll.

A spokesperson for Sense Scotland Touchbase Ayrshire said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be nominated and any funds we’d be able to get would make a huge difference to the people that we support in Ayrshire.

“If we were to be successful, the main purpose that we would use the money for would be to refurbish our sensory room.

“Folks that use a wheelchair can spread out on a nice waterbed and relax and change their positioning. This can really help ease any kind of pain that they have, or tensions that they’ve got, and it can also help with their movement and mobility.

“We’re really proud and honoured that the local community have put us forward for this nomination and I think the people that we support feel so welcomed by everyone around our touchbase service.”

we are putting the power to allocate the cash back into the hands of our readers – you are now invited to collect tokens from the Advertiser, this week and for the next two weeks, to vote for your chosen charity.

All you have to do is tick the box in the voting token printed below, cut it out and then post it to us at Ayr Advertiser, Readers’ Choice Cash for Charities Vote, 125 Fullarton Drive, GlasNow gow G32 8FG.

Alternatively you can drop off tokens directly (with your chosen charity ticked) at Sense Scotland Touchbase Ayrshire, 41 Princes Street, Ardrossan KA22 8BP.

Each token collected will then be used to allocate cash to the nominated charity – so if your favourite charity collects 50 per cent of all the tokens collected, it will receive 50 per cent of the £16,000 available.

The 10 charities to make it through to the public vote are Sense Scotland (Touchbase Ayrshire), Finding Your Feet, the Galashiels Foodbank, East Lothian Roots & Fruits, Greenock Medical Aid Society, Fermanagh Brightstarz, Fairway Fife, Action on Asbestos, the RSABI and Cancer Support Scotland.
