-

TWO teenagers who chased a victim then stamped on his head and nearly killed him avoided jail for the savage assault.

A 17-year-old boy – who can’t be named for legal reasons due to his age – and co-accused Brady Morris, 19, both admitted serious assault charges after pursuing the victim in Corsehill Park on Monument Road, Ayr back on March 6 last year.

Both then repeatedly kicked him on the body and repeatedly stamped on his head to his severe injury and danger of his life.

Morris also assaulted a second complainer by punching him on the body.

When appeared for sentencing at Ayr Sheriff Court last week [November 3] Sheriff Mhairi MacTaggart said: “What you did here was nothing short of appalling. This wasn’t simply an assault, this was assault to danger of life.

“The circumstances surrounding this will probably haunt this man for the rest of his life. You chased him, he fell and you beat him.

Addressing, the 17-year-old, she said: “On alcohol you are a dangerous young man – if you don’t address this you will ruin your life. Think what you are doing to your family.

“Do you want detention? Because that’s what you are facing. You might think you are a big guy beating people up but you won’t be a big guy in detention.

She added: “Mr Morris, I don’t know what possessed you as you weren’t drinking. You will also be going under supervision.”

Both were placed under community payback orders, with the 17-year-old – whose address was listed as Kilwinning - was placed under supervision for two years.

He will also complete 150 hours of unpaid work and tagged and ordered to stay home from 7pm-7am. Morris, of Castleview, West Kilbride was also given 150 hours unpaid work and under supervision for two years.
