Ayr supporters hit with ban warning after ‘continuing’ pitch invasions

-

AYR supporters have been urged to call a halt to invasions of the pitch after the club was advised to step up its police presence for Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash with Morton at Somerset.

The club has warned that supporters who enter the field of play or throw missiles during a match face the prospect of being arrested and banned from future matches.

In a statement issued before Saturday’s crunch clash the club said the continual pitch invasions “not raise concerns from police and other authorities, but also increase risks of further action being taken”.

A spokesperson said: “Owing to the number of issues recently both at home and away, we have been advised to increase the police presence at Somerset Park this weekend - which significantly increases the cost of match day security to the club.

“Given this behaviour is now directly impacting the club’s expenses, any supporter found to be entering the field of play or throwing missiles will face arrest and a ban from attending future matches.

“To ensure we are seen to be doing everything we can to make attending Somerset Park a positive experience for everyone, we are again asking supporters not to enter the field of play at any time.

“The players have now been asked to leave the field of play immediately should there be any incidence of a pitch incursion.

“We want all supporters to enjoy the special moments with the players and staff group to celebrate wins on the pitch and we want to invest your money on things that make us better on and off the pitch.”
