Full week of Ayrshire action in WoSFL

-

IT HAS been a busy week for Ayrshire’s West of Scotland Football League (WoSFL) sides, with some cup action, coupled with a league action both on Saturday and midweek.

First off, in the West of Scotland League Cup first round, Auchinleck Talbot got through an all East Ayrshire clash with Muirkirk Juniors, winning 4-1 at Beechwood Park.

It was a tough lesson for Ayrshire’s newest side Eglinton FC, who were sent crashing out at home to Clydebank, losing 14-0.

In another all-Ayrshire affair, Maybole Juniors were unable to cause an upset against Beith, who progressed following a 4-1 victory.

Kilwinning Rangers eased passed Arthurlie 4-1, a real common score this weekend.

Lugar Boswell Thistle were unable to progress into the second round, losing 4-1 away to Ashfield.

Despite being two leagues below their opposition, Girvan put up a great fight against Rossvale, but they eventually lost 1-0 at Hamilton Park.

It wasn’t easy for Glenafton against Division Four side Glenvale, as the Loch Park side only just edged the tie 2-1.

Irvine Meadow have been flying in the league, but as cup action brought Cumnock to Meadow Park, they suffered only their second defeat under new manager George Grierson, as the visitors ran out 1-0 winners.

After a 1-1 draw in regulation time, Kello Rovers knocked out higher division opposition in Wishaw winning 4-3 on penalties.

While Saltcoats Victoria were knocked out the competition by Kilbirnie Ladeside, who defeated Derek Frye’s men 4-1.

Staying in the Three Towns, Ardrossan Winton Rovers were also knocked out, losing 2-1 to Shotts Bon Accord, a side two divisions above them.

In the battle of the Vics, Blantyre edged out Whitletts, winning 2-1 at Dam Park.

And finally, Troon progressed after making hard work of a 4-2 victory over Glasgow Perthshire.

And league action was still taking place, while the cup matches were ongoing, with some midweek fixtures thrown in where possible to avoid teams falling behind in matches played.

Midweek fixtures in the Premier League saw the spoils shared by Cumnock and Pollok who drew 2-2 at Townhead Park.

Glenafton also took a point from their Wednesday night match against Hurlford United, as they drew 1-1.

Auchinleck sent a statement out to the rest of the league with a resounding 6-0 victory at Buffs Park against Kilwinning Rangers.

Irvine Meadow were briefly joint top of the league, as they won 1-0 in a tough battle versus Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.

The only other action came in North Ayrshire, where in Division Two, Ardeer Thistle made it three wins in three with a 3-0 victory over Greenock.

And Irvine Victoria shared two goals apiece with fellow Division Three title challengers Vale of Clyde in a dramatic match at Victoria Park.
