Rural doc practice set to win reprieve

Health board to retain quaint Dailly surgery

- Stuart Wilson

Health chiefs insist they WILL retain a quaint GP practice in one of Ayrshire’s rural idylls.

Dailly’s doctor service is set to be preserved despite long- serving medic Eddie McFadyen stepping down.

The practice, which boasted two medics until last year, has struggled to attract new faces of late.

It provides a lifeline for the village of Barr and serves around 1400 patients.

In a job advert last year, the post was described as covering “a wide geographic area of great attraction”.

Dr McFadyen’s retiral at the end of next month had put the future of the practice in doubt.

But the Post has learned that NHS bosses are in talks to pull in docs from neighbouring towns to keep the service alive.

Eddie Fraser, director of East Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “Our expectation will be that the incoming GP practice( s) will continue to provide general medical services from premises within Dailly.”

He added: “We rema i n committed to continuing to provide general medical services to the population of Dailly and Barr.

“Our primary care management team is currently in discussion with a local GP practice with the aim of continuing general medical services locally for the population of Dailly and Barr.

“Once this discussion is concluded we will inform the affected patients and staff of the outcome.”
