Man had rifles and stored in house loft and bedroom

- Wilma Riley

A Dalmilling vehicle recovery driver was caught red- handed with five rifles and ammunition when police searched his home following a tip- off.

At the High Court in Glasgow, 50- year- old George Faulds admitted having the weapons at his home at 41 Westwood Avenue, Dalmilling, on May 14 last year.

Advocate depute Jennifer Bain, prosecuting, said: “Police Scotland received information that firearms were within the house occupied by the accused.”

The court heard that Faulds admitted to police officers that there were firearms in the house and directed them to the loft where a BSA rifle, a HW80 rifle and a HW 100 rifle were found.

A Browning .22 rifle and a .22 rifle were found in a box underneath a bedroom window.

They also found .22 rimfire bulleted cartridges in a tub in a drawer in the bedroom.

All the rifles were tested and found to be in working order.

Miss Bain said that other weapons were found and added: “The majority of the firearms and ammunition recovered were exempt from Firearms Certificate Control, but not the five rifles or the cartridges.

“The accused did not hold a firearm or shotgun certificate or a registered f i r e a rm d e a l e r s h i p certificate.”

Faulds was interviewed and said that to his knowledge only one rifle and quantity of ammunition was subject to restrictions under Firearms Act 1968.

He added that to the best of his knowledge the remainer of the firearms s ei zed were pure l y ornamental.

Judge Lord Bannatyne deferred sentence on Faulds until next month at the High Court at Livingston.
