Carers support South Ayrshire Carers’ Support Group meet every second Monday morning in Troon Library from 10am until 11.30am. This is an opportunity for carers to meet with others, receive advice on benefits, counselling and activities organised in Troon and District. Church sale A table top sale is being held at Troon Old Parish Church Hall on Saturday, May 28, from 10am until 3pm. This is a good opportunity to take a table and sell items from the attic and garage which owners no longer use but will be snapped up by someone else. Chess If there is enough interest, it is hoped to form a new Chess Club in Troon Library. Those interested should contact a member of staff in the library and find out more details. Grants South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership invite applications for a grant of £ 500 which is available to groups and organisations who work to provide adults and older people in Troon District with facilities and activities which enable them to live independent and healthy lives. Organisations and groups in Troon, Barassie, Muirhead, Dundonald and Loans are eligible to apply. Carers A carers’ support group has been formed in Troon Library, meeting every second Monday from 10am until 11.30am. Advice will be given about claiming benefits, help with legal advice, filling in forms, attending outings and meeting others in similar situations. Art The next date for St Ninian’s Community Art Project – The Troon Wall Hanging – is Saturday, May 28. The sewing group meet in the Church Hall from 11.15am to 1.15pm. Donations of fabric and threads will be gratefully received. These can be left at the back door of the church. Arthritis group The next meeting of Troon Arthritis Group ( TAG) takes place on Wednesday, May 25, in St Meddan’s Church Hall at 2pm. Entertainment will be provided by pupils from Wellington School, Ayr. Tea is served at the close of the meeting. • Margaret Robertson 01292 311440 on the Saturday the children’s poetry competition takes place in the parish church at 10am followed by a buffet in St Thomas’s Hall and the Lapraik Memorial Reading in the Parish Kirkyard and this is followed by the World Speaking Championships in the Caravan Park at 2pm. The Lapraik Festival brings a number of people coming to it from various parts of Scotland and helps put Muirkirk on the map. This service has been available for a number of years and is presently being used by people from the village. Muirkirk Angling Club Local fishing permits are now available at the same price as last year. Permits can be obtained by contacting Joe Timmins.
