Salon is busy with holiday chit- chat

- Martin Malloy

Are you doing anything tonight? Any holidays planned?

Yes, these are the staple hairdresser questions. Sometimes i feel like a the travel show guru as it’s always a topic that can open up a great conversation from back packing in India to camping in the Lakes, our holiday tastes and styles are as individual as our hairstyles.

Recently I shared some travel plans it went some thing like this, “I don’t like going on holiday,” I asked “So why are you going?” response, “I need a break” “Are you all packed?” “I don’t know what to take” “It’s to rain every day there”

Among my replies were: “Oh okay, well you live in Scotland and it does rain here.” “Maybe just take an umbrella” “Try and keep your hair dry” - these are all the answers of support I can offer.

Of course many years ago you know the five day weather forecast was unheard of and you just took your chances even the reviews of hotel standards and local area are now all at our fingertips these days.

That means if you like info before you travel it’s all there to warn you or to put your mind at rest before you prepare to set the alarm for the middle of the night wake up call to catch that plane.

And if there is a flight delay well gosh you could have had an extra hour in your bed.]

I once had a travel experience i will never forget.

I had to catch a transatlantic flight and was all set to go then the captain informed us we need too return to the gate as the backdoor of the place wasn’t showing as locked.

Seven hours later we had to wait until take off and I have to admit I didn’t remove my seatbelt the whole time in the air convincing myself the backdoor may open again.

So now you have spent the hours researching, you’ve bought the new summer wardrobe, the holiday hair appointment is booked and even the beach body diet has been completed.

It amazes me how much you can preplan these days.

One client gave me a top tip for cruising fashion.

Wear all your tight fitting trousers and dresses first few days of the cruise, as with all the restaurants and buffets onboard you may be carrying a few extra pounds on your return.

One piece of advice I can offer is to be safe while you are in another country, watch your personal belongings and don’t forget about personal safety when you are in holiday mode.

And remember while it may be tempting to go and have a fabulous new hair- do in a foreign land, be careful.

Unless you are fluent in the language be sure you get the point of what you are looking for across the hairdresser or that could turn into a holiday hair- do from hell.

But wherever you are heading this summe have a marvellous time.
