Wallander mellows in latest episode

-

Is it just me or does Kenneth Branagh have very slim lips?

The entire time I was watching the brilliant Wallander on BBC1 on Sunday night I kept thinking how strange his lips were, still attractive but I suppose that is besides the point.

This first mystery was set in South Africa. Wallander only went there to make a speech at a conference, but as usual ends up getting involved.

Although I think he has mellowed a little, our hero of the hour still doesn’t give much away through those tight lips but there’s an almost friendly twinkle about him.

There was more than a hint of warmth on a face time call to his daughter and he seemed to warm to Grace, the local police woman. And at a party at her house he was positively lovely as he talked to Grace’s daughter, though I don’t want him to mellow too much.

When these last three are done, is he going to retire happily, a doting grandad? Somehow I doubt it.

But the way he pieced Inga’s disappearance and found her body was clever and compulsive viewing.

Who could have guessed she was in a water tank in a disused military base? Of course our man did. I also like the fact it is all done and dusted in 90 minutes.

On the other hand I will miss the weekly installment of Marcella.

I admit I was still a little confused at the last episode but still really enjoyed it.

And it was heartbreaking television on BBC4 on Sunday night as the late Antonia Bird’s hard hitting Care was screened.

Moving and upsetting to watch, Steven McIntosh delivered the performance of his career in this moving drama.

Dealing with issues of sexual abuse, domestic abuse and poverty, it made me realise what a loss to the world of drama Antonia’s passing was.
