Karen has many happy memories
Doonfoot teacher leaves pupils with special gifts
School’s out for the summer – but one group of pupils will never forget the good times in the classroom.
The kids from P4H in Doonfoot received an extra special departing gift from their much loved teacher Karen Hull.
Mrs Hull spent hours ma k i n g t h e m a l l a customised memory board each capturing all their key moments from the year.
Every child’s montage is completely different with unique photographs of them individually and with pals complete with special messages.
The 19 children were gobsmacked when presented with them.
Maya Hawthorn, nine, of Doonfoot, said: “I thought it was really nice of Mrs Hull to do this for us. She put so much effort into making the keepsake. It brings back memories and makes us think about all the fun in P4. It almost made me cry.”
Mrs Hull’s dining table at home was covered in paper and photographs for weeks as she worked on the project during Sundays.
She said: “I will miss them terribly. The year flies in so quickly and then it is gone. We pack so much into each term so it is good to put it together. You can’t spend lots of money but you can give them photographs and memories. “It took me ages “The kids are lovely and so enthusiastic. I put a lot into them and when I pass them on to the next teacher I want to leave them with good thoughts.”
The mother- of- two from Ayr has taught for 30 years with 16 of those at Doonfoot.
She has created memory boards for her other lucky classes in the past, including P7s.
She said: “You are with the children from 9am to 3pm and you end up getting to know them really well.”
A certificate was also included on the laminated board and one of the touching messages read: ‘ Aim for the moon and if you miss, you’ll still be among the stars.’
