Pop up art show in High Street

-

Crafty Ayrshire College students proved their flair with a pop- up art exhibition at the former Watt Brothers shop on Ayr High Street.

Displaying over 250 pieces, the 19 HND students recently presented a collection of fine art, print designs and paintings to family and friends, with some even bagging sales from onlookers from their independent art show ‘ Opus 21’.

The students, who will now be moving onto new ventures had a fantastic turn out with hundreds coming along to support them.

Student, Briege O’Neill said: ” It was such a fantastic event and we thank everyone that came out to support us.

“The art was on display for five days and the sales raised a grand total of £ 4367, and 10 per cent of this will be donated to charity.

“It was such a great experience for all of us to organise and it was extremely encouraging for young artists to see that visitors were purchasing our work.”

Head of learning and skills for arts and fashion, Dianne Quinn, added: “I am so proud of them all, they organised everything themselves over the course of the year.

“Some of them even made sales which was very encouraging for them to see their art was commercial enough to sell, the standard of work was really high.

“Some of them will now being going onto further education whilst others will be going out into the big world to make their mark in the industry and I wish them all the best of luck for the future.”
