Pupils put their talents in spotlight
Carrick Once again pupils from Carrick Academy put on a fantastic summer concert, showcasing the many talented pupils of the school.
This year a slightly different approach was taken and the concert took place in the assembly room, which gave the Live Lounge an acoustic feel for the evening.
Kieran Robb did a great job in entertaining the audience and introducing all the acts. The school wind band, who recently performed at the Ayrshire Music Festival, started the night off with the theme from ‘ Ghostbusters’, ‘ A Whole New World’ and ‘ In the Hall of the Mountain King’.
Vocal solos came from Macy Racle, Zoe Ingils, Steffi Purdie, Elysia O’Connell, Vicki Green, Olivia Clark, Kieran Robb and Rebecca Cameron.
Libby Purdie performed a very entertaining and challenging grade 8 piece called ‘ Maple Leaf Rag’ on xylophone and Rebecca Cameron and her band performed a few cover songs as well as their own originals.
The school choir sang several pieces which included‘ Flashlight’, ‘ Titanium’, ‘ Secret Love Song’ and ‘ Falling Slowly’. Liam Dobbie and Sarah McElroy joined the staff band in accompanying the many acts.
S1 pupils Robyn McKell and Katie Boyd performed‘ The Cup Song’ from ‘ Pitch Perfect’. This act was the talk of the night and a challenge was even set for two audience members and two teachers going head- to- head at performing this challenging act.
The school thanked Miss McKinlay of the music department for organising this event under the guidance of Mrs Burrell and the parent council for supporting the school with refreshments and a raffle.
