Soul festival will raise cancer cash

- Michael Reynolds

If you’ve got soul, then Kilmarnock is the place to be this weekend.

Top Ayrshire promoters Suite Soul have a whole day of music lined up at the town’s Park Hotel on Saturday from 7pm until 7am.

The mammoth music extravaganza will raise funds for cancer research, and all performers have agreed to spin tracks without a fee.

DJs including Radio Scotland broadcaster and soul fanatic Stuart Cosgrove – who will also sign copies of his new book, Young Soul Rebel – and Londoners Steve Cole and Chris Willcox will play music through the night.

They will be joined by 16 other DJs from around the country, including top names from soul nights in Stirling, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Manchester.

Organiser Bob Jefferies said: “The whole spectrum of soul music will be played throughout the event from northern and modern soul through to soulful house, disco and dancefloor jazz.

“Almost 300 tickets have been sold so far and with only a limited number left you have to be quick.

“Me and my wife Lorna hope this will be an annual event, and we’re specially thankful to Katie Johnson at the Park Hotel, Kenny and Colin Blair from the Buzzworks bar and restaurant company and Wahid Sadiq who are graciously donating to off set the costs.”

All the rooms at the Park Hotel sold out within a week of the event’s announcement, but there are still tickets left to book your place and boogie on down.

The Blues Restaurant, part of the hotel complex, will be open from 12 until 6pm and again from 7am with a full a la carte menu to suite all tastes.

Tickets are available for £ 12 advance or £ 15 on the door if any are left, and are available from Bob Jefferies at bobjeffries@ madasafish. com or through the Suite Soul Facebook page.
