Volunteers hailed for their efforts Honours for the unsung

S p o r t i n g v o l u n t e e r s were hailed at a glittering awards night in Ayr Town Hall.

S outh Ay r s h i re Active Schools aims to provide more and higher quality opportunit­ies for children to participat­e in school and community sport.

And it tries to increase c a p a c i t y t h rough the recruitmen­t and d e v e l o p m e n t o f volunteers.

Ha r d wo r k i n g v o l u n t e e r s w e r e h o n o u red in an evening which also saw performanc­es from Marr College and Glenburn PS dancers, and the South Ayrshire Percussion Band.

Young Ambassador Award for Excellence: John Watson ( Queen Margaret Academy), 2. Chloe Jackson ( Queen Margaret Academy), 3. Matthew Field ( Ayr Academy).

Sports leader of year: Louis McIntosh ( Prestwick Academy), 2. Miguel McIntosh ( Belmont Academy), 3 ( joint): Lee Young & Adam Lawrie ( Carrick Academy).

Coaching Academy pupil of year: Kieran Mc L a u g h l i n , 2 . Jordi Sergio, 3. Liam Fitzsimmon­s ( all Queen Margaret Academy).

Competitiv­e School Sport Merit League: Kyle Academy; Club of year: Coylton Tennis Club, 2. South Ayrshire Table Tennis Club, 3. Ayr Curling Club.
