Under 25s trophy win

Ayrshire won the Under 25’ s Counties League Cup on Sunday to clinch the title for the second time.

They ended a 20 year wait when they beat Grampian at Houldswort­h in the final after earlier seeing off Renfrewshi­re in the semis.

Team captain was Craig McClue from Cumnock.

Ayrshire suffered double defeats in the Hamilton Trophy last weekend to both finish third in their sections.

South lost 99- 139 to Lanarkshir­e South at Northfield. Scores: W McKenzie 24, I Campbell 22; B Anderson 22, I McLean 20; D Shields 16, J Simpson 17; C Cobbledick 16, R Grant 36; S McGhee 12, J Meikle 19; J Cuthbertso­n 9, D Gardner 25.

North lost 101- 127 to Lanarkshir­e West at Uddingston. Scores: G Pruty 26, C Carswell 7; A Kelly 29, D O’Rourke 10; R Brown 19, P Foster 15; S Forrest Jnr 16, E Sloan 16; S McLaren 20, D Crawford 32; G Prentice 17, M Williamson 21.

Irvine Park won the Gold Bowl with 31 shots, pipping Springside by a shot.

The Silver Bowl went to Ayr Wattfield with 22 shots, two ahead of Glaisnock Valley.

Monday night’s McLean Bowl, run by Ayr Trophies Committee, was won by Ayr (+ 22 shots).

Joint runners- up were Hawkhill and Seafield (+ 18 shots) with Wattfield (+ 8 shots) in fourth.

Monday, July 4 sees the opening round of the Westwater Cup with the following ties: Northfield v Forehill ( at Craigie), Newton Park v Crooksmoss ( at Seafield), Hawkhill v Peter Boyle ( at Ayr), Prestwick v Ayr ( at Peter Boyle).

Wilson Duffy ( Craigie) is through to the blue riband singles semi- finals of the Ayrshire Championsh­ips.

He won the south district final at Hawkhill on Sunday, beating Vic Crawford ( Howie) 21- 6, and now goes forward to the semi- finals at Cumnock on Thursday, July 14. Finals are at Irvine Park on Saturday, August 13.
