Maybole squad picked to bone

Boss Walker bemoans lure of Girvan

- Mike Wilson

Carlo Walker claims he will have to start again after another signing raid by Maybole’s closest rivals.

Peter Leonard, who spent almost 10 years in charge at Ladywell before joining Girvan, is making another signing swoop on his old club.

And that has left relegated Maybole scrambling to assemble a team for next season.

Boss Walker said: “I don’t know what the lure is but we keep losing our players to them. When Peter left Maybole to take over at Girvan, he left me with three players and a bag of balls.

“I just hope he doesn’t come back for the balls.

“Peter has taken every single player, bar one, from the team he left.”

However, former St Mirren star Leonard insists he has done nothing wrong in pursuing so many targets from his former club.

He said: “All the players were on signed contracts so the ball was in Carlo’s court to re- sign them.”

‘ Bole stalwarts Andy Stevenson, Mark Doolan, John Frame and Marc Cameron are the latest to be linked with moves to their Carrick foes.

And former Maybole keeper Scott Johnstone has agreed terms after being freed by Auchinleck.

Maybole have also lost James Cuthbertson to Irvine Meadow while Michael Reilly could be a target for Cumnock.

That has left Maybole in turmoil but Walker is trying to strike a deal with Craigmark for striker Dillon Dunn while youngster Aiden Connor has agreed to stay.

Walker added: “I know I need to get players in and have to rebuild. I have spoken to loads of players and will go again.”

Eight of Girvan’s titlewinning squad from last season have moved on – Dean Marshall, Josh Sloan, Calum Nairn, Greg Gallagher, Stephen Cargill, Jo Maxwell, Stevie Douglas and Chris Allan.

hav e released Robert Love, Scott Johnstone, Martin Findlay and David Gillies.

new management team of Gareth Turner and Michael Wardope has snapped up former Cumnock and Troon keeper Darren Johnson.

Other new faces include Winton Rovers wing- back Lee McCrae, midfielder Ian Seymour and midfielders Jarred Willet and Connor Browning.

Defender Mark Murray and midfielder Graeme Muir have moved from from Largs Thistle while striker Greg Vernon has quit Darvel for Meadow Park.

will kick off away to Newton Stewart on Saturday, July 16, away to Oakley United on July 23, at home to Johnstone Burgh on July 30 and away to Maryhill on Wednesday, August 3.
