Putting the scare into Ayr
TamFest still has room to grow
collect books all year and have an annual book stall?
How many women’s guilds or groups could sell home baking?
How many schools could set up a “garage sale” of unwanted items – and let the kids sing to attract attention.
Why was top second hand record shop Big Sparra Vinyl not selling me that Stones album I always wanted?
Or the excellent Ayr Brewing Company not offering a taste of their hand crafted ales?
Would Stewart or Barrhead Travel turn down a stall to sell holidays and maybe a raffle ticket to actually win one? Would Arnold Clark, Parks or Bridgend Motors say ‘ no’ to sitting the latest car on the pavement and letting kids sit at the wheel while dad talked to the sales guy?
I’m no mind reader – but I can’t see many, if any, turning the opportunity down.
And with a decent stage and sound system in place, I can’t see top local bands like The Marauders, Bakerloo Line, Goodfellows , Audioclass or Backwater turning down the chance to play either. And for free!
TamFest is a great concept – the tale of Tam O’Shanter has Halloween written all over it.
I’m not convinced that covering iconic Burns Cottage in cobwebs was out the same box of great concepts – but we’ll let that one go for this year.
There was a whole movie made around the concept of “Build it – and they will come”.
And people will come in their thousands to a Tamfest that offers something for everyone. But first, we have to build it. And based on Tamfest 2016... there’s a lot of construction work ahead!
