Heriot’s clash will be 10 point cracker

-

There were several factors which would have discouraged a hefty wager on Ayr collecting full points against Currie, not least the lack of convincing success by the Millbrae crew in the capital so far this season.

Add to that the fact that Malleny has been the scene of some epic Ayr disasters in the past as well as the current form of a side who came back from the dead to blast Hawks at Old Anniesland and the wallet was advisedly kept in the pocket.

Given that background it was hardly surprising that Ayr coach Calum Forrester was, with the usual reservations, happy to come away with five points.

He said: “Our early penalty in the second- half made it a three score match but that was similar to where we had been when we lost here before. We had controlled the first half and scored three tries from the line- out but when Archie Russell picked up a yellow card, we were short out wide and they took advantage. There was obviously the concern that they could pull off what they did against Hawks last week but we closed it out as we should.

“We have no serious injury worries going into Saturday’s visit of Heriot’s.

“They are on a bit of a roll and in terms of league points this is a 10 pointer so we are looking to do more than we did at Goldenacre”

And more that Ayr did at Millbrae the last time Heriot’s were the visitors? Sending them back to the capital with empty swag bags this time?

“You said it, not me,” smiled the coach with a glint in his eye.
