Claire’s double bid on the world stage

Auchinleck ace through to singles and mixed pairs

Auchinleck star Claire Johnston is through to two world championsh­ip finals.

Playing in a PBA Ladies Matchplay qualifier at Falkirk, Claire won all her matches in the round robin and Julie Forrest in the final to book a place in the world finals at Potters Resort, Norwich.

Winning this game also qualifies Claire to pair up with No 1 seed Nicky Brett to compete in World Mixed Pairs. Both competitio­ns are in January.

Stephanie Wallace won through the SIBA Ladies U25 singles playdowns at Coatbridge, beating Sarah Kennedy ( Ardrossan) 21- 10 and Whiteinch 21- 10.

She now plays Emma McIntyre ( Dumbarton) in the semi- finals at West Lothian on January 7.

Cameron White beat Whiteinch 21- 16 in the SIBA U25 singles playdowns at Coatbridge but then lost 21- 8 to Paisley.

Auchinleck seniors beat Galleon 69- 54 at home. Scores: W McLatchie 19, J Aitken 11; J Fleming 18, G Buchanan 14; E Duncan 19, A Findlay 11; B McArthur 13, H Bennett 18.

The ladies lost 82- 80 at home to Galleon. Scores: H Kay 14, A Gilmour 24; J Williamson 17, D Marshall 15; J Sykes 28, I McCormack 12; M Shimmons 21, J McFedries 31.

On Saturday, the seniors travel to play Lanarkshir­e. Rink 1: D Monaghan, C Provan, D Weir, W McArthur; Rink 2: D Jagodowski, B Lopez, R. Dunsmuir, J. Fleming; Rink 3: G Reid, W Dalgleish, S Rowan, W McLatchie; Rink 4: J Sloan, C Cathie, J McCracken, E Duncan.

The ladies travel to Blantyre. Rink 1: S Robertson, B Hall, H Smith, C Johnston; Rink 2: L Hume, M Bingham, C Cowie, H Kay; Rink 3: S Wallace, H Vallance, I McKnight, M Shimmons; Rink 4: E Reid, T Moore, M Sunter, J Williamson.

The gents entertain East Kilbride from 2- 6pm while on Sunday, the U35s play Paisley at Ardrossan. In the SIBA senior fours playdowns, Eddie Duncan, Jim McCracken, Derek Monaghan and Jim Burns play Ardrossan at 2pm.

Josephine Williamson will play Blantyre at 2pm in the senior ladies singles playdowns while in the senior pairs, Margaret Bingham and Liz Hume play Paisley at 10am. All at East Kilbride.

Baird Bowl: Glaisnock 3, Auchinleck Indoor 3; Mauchline 4, Auchinleck 2. Sunday’s ties: 11am- 1pm: Sorn v Auchinleck Outdoor; Auchinleck Indoor v Galston; 1- 3pm: Mauchline v Cumnock.

Prestwick seniors fell to their first defeat of the season when they lost 84- 59 away to East Kilbride.

On Saturday, they bid to return to winning ways at home to leaders Paisley.

After a free week, the gents entertain Allander, looking to maintain their 100 per cent home record and cement their place at the top of the division.

The ladies bid for their first victory in the new Premier League when they travel to take on the Galleon.

In the SIBA National Junior Singles, Darren Weir was beaten 21- 17 in round one by John Orr ( East Kilbride) while Rebecca Houston won her first match 21- 16 against West of Scotland and was beaten 21- 10 by Dumbarton’s Emma McIntyre in the quarter- finals.

Sunday saw Ayrshire Ladies and Gents Fours League at Ardrossan and Prestwick.

Ross Gouldstone, Adam Sturgeon, Reece Martin, Mark Kerr, Alex Thomson, William Kennedy, John Lindsay, Michael Higgins, Ronnie McBain, Peter Francis, Stan Gibson and Brian Cavers won the gents event on home carpet, with the Galleon taking the spoils in the ladies.

This Sunday sees the national gents senior fours, ladies senior singles and pairs at East Kilbride with Prestwick represente­d in all three.

Ayr seniors lost 67- 78 at Dumbarton and now sit two points from the top but with a healthy shot difference. The ladies continued their form with a resounding 96- 46 win at home to Inverclyde.

Fixtures: gents host leaders Blantyre, the seniors entertain Allander while the ladies travel to East Kilbride.

On Saturday, the club are hosting a race night from 8pm. All members and guests welcome.
