Jamie Adams. It had nothing to do with me not trusting Jamie, it was just that I didn’t trust the ref.

“He was booked for absolutely nothing, it wasn’t even a foul so if Jamie had mistimed anything after that he would have been sent off.

“The penalty incident beggars belief. Harkins was emptied in the box — it was a stonewall penalty.

“I don’t think the players handled how the crowd reacted to the disallowed goal and I don’t think our subs did enough when they came on.

“The Harkins incident was huge. It would have put us back in the lead.

“The players, fans and directors were gutted at losing. There was an expectancy that we should win and that has been a big turnaround for us.”

Brian Gilmour fired wide from 25 yards before on- loan Partick striker Nisbet gave Ayr the lead eight minutes before the break with a curling shot into the bottom corner after Ross Docherty played him in.

The Greenock men upped their game in the second half and Nesbitt had a goal controversially ruled out after the linesman claimed Jai Quitongo was obscuring Greg Fleming’s view.

Former Queen Margaret Academy pupil O’Ware then headed home a simple leveller from a Ross Forbes corner.

The came the Harkins yellow and Ayr were still reeling when Oliver knocked home his last- gasp winner after his first effort had been blocked by Fleming.

Nicky Devlin, Conrad Balatoni and Robbie Crawford were booked in addition to Adams and Harkins.
