Ayrshire College celebrated National Care Leavers’ Week with a special celebration of success event at the Kilwinning campus.

A total of 36 care experienced young people received a certificate from Ayrshire College and North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership to celebrate their participation in a range of education, employment and training opportunities.

Working in partnership with North Ayrshire Council, the event highlighting the needs of care experienced young people, encouraged partner agencies responsible for looking after them

to work in a coordinated and effective way.

This year, the theme for National Care Leavers’ Week Scotland was Roots 2 Routes which focused on the importance of creating a Scotland where all care experienced people are understood, supported and have equality in their community.

Iona Colvin, Corporate Director, North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership said: “There is no doubt, that despite the significant challenges that young people with Care Experience face, they are a resourceful, capable and talented group of young people who have much to offer our communities.”

Representatives from external agencies including Police Scotland, NHS and Who Cares? Scotland, provided support and information at the event alongside Ayrshire College Student Association.
