WHAT A SILLY BURGER

Worker’s £ 20,000 rampage

- Stephen Houston

A fast food worker smashed up his own restaurant in broad daylight – after going on a drink and drugs- fuelled rampage.

Craig Shearer caused more than £ 20,000 worth of damage during his wrecking spree at Burger King.

The 24- year- old took a hammer to display screens, tills and industrial toasters after flipping at his bosses.

His attack left the Ayr High Street branch closed for a full day while a clean- up operation had to be mounted.

At Ayr Sheriff Court last week, Shearer, of the town’s Princes Court, admitted two charges of destroying property within the outlet.

The court heard how Shearer, a supervisor at the branch, had grown “disgruntled at work” and felt he “wasn’t respected by his seniors”.

And a dispute over the size of his pay packet had led to rising tensions

A man who had recently started working at Turnberry Hotel has been killed in a road accident.

Wayne Cameron is understood to have been enjoying New Year’s Day in Girvan and was walking back to the hotel.

His father said that he was on foot because his own car had broken down.

Wayne was hit by a car, which was driven by a 28- year- old waitress who also worked at Donald Trump’s five star resort.

Wayne, 38, had reached the end of a pavement on the A77 close to Girvan Mains farm.

He was then on the road and was hit by a Ford Focus.

Sources say the waitress did not know him.

Police officers are keen for any witness to the accident or anyone who had seen Wayne earlier to speak to them.

Wayne hailed from Buckie in Moray and started work in sales at Turnberry just last month.

In tribute his son, father James Cameron said: “This was our beloved son James Wayne, the Buckie legend who never did anything in his life mediocre.

“Ironic his demise should come from a Ford Focus on the A77 after his car broke down en route to his beloved Turnberry. We are broken.”

An ambulance was with Wayne in just two minutes from its base at Girvan Community Hospital.

Tragically he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened at around 12.30am on January 2.

His Turnberry colleague was shocked but unhurt.

The road was closed and diversions were put in place.

Officers from the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Irvine are appealing for help on 101.
