- Lorraine Howard

A high street travel agency in West Kilbride has been shortlisted as one of the best travel agencies in the British Isles.

LAH Travel has been selected as one of the top five high street agencies in the Scotand, as part of a power- list of the nation’s best agents by industry bible the Travel Trade Gazette. More than 950 travel agencies and branches put themselves forward for consideration for TTG’s Top 50 Travel Agencies 2017 – in association with Kuoni - from which a shortlist of 90 finalists across 18 categories has been devised.

On March 13, 2017, the winning 50 agencies that have earned a place in the Top 50 list for 2017 will be announced at a glittering ceremony at The Vox Centre in Birmingham.

TTG editor Pippa Jacks said: “Now in its second year, our Top 50 Travel Agencies initiative takes us the length and breadth of the country to uncover stories of brilliant agents going the extra mile for their customers, giving great value, and serving their communities.

“We were overwhelmed to have 950 branches and companies put themselves forward to be considered for the list this year, and any that have made the shortlist should be extremely proud.”

Linda Hill, Managing Director of LAH Travel said: “We are delighted to be regonised in these prestigious awards and comes as we celebrate 13 years in business”

The shortlisting stage was undertaken by a panel of 60 travel suppliers including airlines, tour operators and car hire providers, who rated hopeful agencies according to their business performance, customer service and innovation. In the next stage of judging, a TTG journalist will visit each shortlisted agency to carry out an assessment.

This is the time of year to head to the travel agents and plan your getaway and here are the top holiday destinations for 2017.

GUATEMALA: Guatemala should be world famous. It should appear on bucket lists as frequently as Peru or South Africa or Egypt. It should be known for ancient ruins, such as Tikal, for natural attractions like Lake Atitlan, for colonial towns like Antigua, and even for bustling mountaintop hubs like Quetzaltenango.

PERU: Peru is the only city to boast three of the world’s top 30 best restaurants. It’s not Paris, it’s not New York, and it’s not London. It’s Lima, the Peruvian capital, whose dining scene has gone stratospheric in recent years.

SOUTH AFRICA: South Africa is affordable, and has a host of stunning landmarks and adventures for you to enjoy.

RUSSIA: This is a country you want to visit in 2017. As it gears up to host the FIFA World Cup in 2018, Russia is ready to show the world how much it has to offer.:

THAILAND: Every region of Thailand offers different food, a different culture, and a different attitude. Each is worth discovering.

CANADA: The big, beautiful, and ridiculously friendly country of Canada turns 150 years old in 2017, which means it’s time to celebrate. While most of the action will centre around the capital, Ottawa, which is putting on 12 months of festivals and events, next year will be a great time to be in any part of the country, with events taking place nationwide.
