New road plan for Monkton growth

-

A developer is planning 250 homes in Monkton.

And Dawn Homes is aiming to create a new access that will take new traffic away from the centre of the village.

Managing director Martin Egan was speaking after we revealed the plan for the 133 acre site, which includes farmland and the old HMS Gannet.

The site could typically have contained 1330 new houses at ten per acre but Mr Egan said: “It is our intention to submit a full planning application for approximately 250 new homes.

“Dawn Homes has had significant consultations with South Ayrshire Council regarding the traffic issues within the village and is presently working on proposals to access the housing development directly from Kilmarnock Road, therefore mitigating any traffic impact within the village.”

The firm has been working to get the site, part of which is fancied as a future home for any spaceport development, released for housing for the past five years.

Mr Egan said he was aware of the sensitivity surrounding the two A- listed monuments - the Macrae and the windmill - on the site and added: “We are at an advanced stage in our dialogue with Historic Environment Scotland regarding minimising the impact of the development on the historic monuments.

“The company has recently completed its first development in the village and is very much looking forward to bringing another exciting housing development to the area.”

Public consultation will be held next month.
