Probe into fire at home

A beautician remains in hospital with serious injuries after a mystery house fire sparked a large- scale rescue operation.

Kerry Jackson, 23, was airlifted from her Ayr home on Sunday and is receiving treatment from burns specialists.

Police, fire and ambulance crews scrambled to the scene on Lochlea Drive and a helicopter landed at Glencairn Park to transport Kerry, who owns KJ Studios on Ayr’s Main Road, to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Her boyfriend Philip Lock, from Kilmarnock, has been praised by her family for rescuing her from the blaze, which broke out in the kitchen at around 4.30pm.

Kerry’s brother Callum Jackson said in a statement: “Kerry was involved in a fire inside the kitchen of the home and has suffered a number of burns.

“My family and I would like to thank Kerry’s partner for his quick actions as he almost certainly saved Kerry’s life that afternoon.

“We would also like to thank the fire service, paramedics, air ambulance team and police for their care when responding to this incident.

“Kerry is now under the care of burns specialists. All clinicians involved have been outstanding when dealing with Kerry and her family.

“Kerry’s current status is that she is stable with a number of burns of varying severity.”

Neighbours raised the alarm after hearing screams on Sunday afternoon and the helicopter spent more than an hour at the scene as police closed off part of the road to allow emergency access. Officers remained at the property on Monday as enquiries continued into the cause of the blaze.

A spokesman said: “Nobody else was injured and enquiries are at an early stage to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue said three engines responded to the scene.

A spokesman said: “The fire was extinguished prior to the crew’s arrival and a female casualty was transferred to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.”
