Uniting the community Funding will connect generation­s

T h e C a t r i n e Community Trust has received a whopping £ 143,950 to bring the generation­s together.

The award from the Big Lottery Fund, covering a three- year period, is for a project called Connecting Catrine’s Generation, which is all about giving people the chance to take part in volunteeri­ng of any descriptio­n, but especially where befriendin­g or just looking out for others is key.

Catrine Community Trust want to use informatio­n technology to try and start to break down the barriers of social isolation.

Their idea is to encourage people from different generation­s to spend more time together and pass on skills and knowledge.

Jamie Allen, secretary to the board at Catrine Community Trust said:, “This is awesome news, Christmas has come early in 2017 - thank you the Big Lottery Fund.”

Manager Ian Logan added: “This is something the organisati­on has been keen to do for a long time.

“The previous manager started the process, as we are very keen to connect the generation­s through this project.

“We are really confident we can make a huge improvemen­t in our community.”

Big Lottery Fund Scotland chair Maureen McGinn said: “The funding will make a big difference where it is needed most and I wish Catrine Community Trust every success as it goes on to develop and expand its project for the benefit of their local community.”

The trust is a registered charity whose aim is to manage community owned assets and their associated heritage to benefit the local community.

They aim to do this by providing recreation­al facilities, environmen­tal improvemen­ts, regenerati­on and creating up skill opportunit­ies for all ages and levels.

Following the funding announceme­nt, Jeane Freeman MSP said: “I welcome this excellent news the Catrine Community Trust who carry out excellent work.

“I visited the Catrine Community Trust a couple of months ago and was very impressed with their work.”
